Reba S1:E1 Pilot

The episode opens with Reba and the rest of the Hart family in a court ordered therapy session. There’s some cute banter between the family and the sassy black therapist before Reba unloads a heaping helping of exposition. Turns out Reba and her husband Brock have been separated for some time and the whole family is sick of it. Reba asks Brock to move back in but it’s revealed that he’s been seeing one of his dental assistants and has accidentally gotten her pregnant. In the ensuing confusion it’s revealed that the oldest daughter Cheyenne is also pregnant. The father of Cheyenne’s baby is Van, a star player on the high school football team that Brock coaches. Reba has some weird sex and divorce chat with Jake and Kyra, her other two kids before taking a sandwich up to Cheyenne’s bedroom where she finds Van hiding under the bed. It turns out that his folks kicked him out after he told them about the baby and had planned to hide out at the Hart’s. Van then proposes to Cheyenne, this is just too much for Reba to handle. Reba visits Brock’s office to tell him about the wedding which he is very much against. We meet Barbara Jean, the dental assistant that Brock left Reba for. She tries to be buddy buddy with Reba but Reba isn’t about to play that game. Brock tells her that he won’t show up but Reba tells him to wear his blue blazer and bring some ice. During the wedding planning Reba finds her old wedding dress and preps it for Cheyenne to wear. Turns out Cheyenne has done her own shopping and picked out a much more fashionable dress. Van’s parents refuse to show up but he’s arranged a honeymoon at his uncle’s Galveston beach house. On the wedding day it starts to become clear that Brock isn’t going to show and Cheyenne gets upset. Reba then burns some food, SHE’S AT THE END OF HER ROPE. Just then Brock appears in the doorway with a bag of ice. They hug and then Barbara Jean pops in. There’s some yelling in the living room which turns out to be Cheyenne and Van having an argument. It turns out that there was a football game on the night of the wedding and Van had planned play. He says that the coach told him that if he didn’t play he’d be off the team. Brock thinks he should play which starts a fight that ends with Barbara Jean sitting in the wedding cake. Reba finally snaps and yells at everyone. Reba and Cheyenne have a Hart To Hart and the wedding is on again, and this time Cheyenne is going to wear Reba’s wedding dress. The wedding resumes, Van makes a weird Remark about condoms and Barbara Jean photobombs the family photo.

Our June Los Angeles show is almost here. There’s a good chance it’s going to be one of our more fun shows ever thanks to Greg Behrendt headlining/hosting and sets from Kyle Kinane, a special SURPRISE guest and Tony Sam and the great comedy/music duo of Drennon Davis and Nick Stargu, along with videos from D.I.R.T. comedy.

Plus, Superego will be doing an extended set, accompanied by the great Paul F. Tompkins.

This Wednesday night, come join us for a super fun pre-party starting at 7PM. In addition to The Virgil’s happy hour, we’ll have a DJ spinning tunes, Mandoline Grill food truck and Kyle’s Cookies* (free! but donations are encouraged).

This is the final “class” of John Roy’s free of charge online stand-up comedy course. It’s been a great set of lessons in stand-up that Roy, both a very funny comedian who has definitely put his time in as a full time working stand-up, is offering for all, whether you’re going full bore into comedy or casually interested in it minus the hundreds of dollars you’d spend at a class if that was what you were looking to do.
